Where we come from and where we are now

Helping humanitarian action through web innovation

Our skilled Team, through  its passion and expertise, strives everyday to make better software for a better world. We designs and develops innovative web solutions, applications, intranets and websites for international organizations since 2003, mainly in the humanitarian and social sector (see our projects).

We work with organizations to help them push the limits with their use of technology. We work with communications experts, economists, crisis response experts, and information managers at organizations like the WFP (World Food Programme), MSF (Médicines Sans Frontières), Oxfam to solve tough collaboration challenges.

On the product front, our team leads the development of offline web applications for development,  in particular we have developed OOPS (Online-Offline Publication System), a partnership project with the World Food Programme (WFP) that answer a very basic need: to have always updated information available in the fields, without the need of a permanent internet connection.

Our network

We are a highly specialized, small and flexible structure that deliver its projects partnering with the customer and with a wide network of trusted small companies and external collaborators.

Reflab team and partners include senior consultants, designers and developers, experts in usability, system administration and software engineering.

We have a core team of seven incredible people and contracts with a number of external developers on a regular basis.

Our History

We started as a laboratory for highly specialized developments on Zope and Plone. On one side Riccardo Lemmi brought his passion for software engineering and in particular agile development, on the other Francesco Ciriaci brought his passion for Web in general and usability.

We are actively involved in international communities (KM4Dev, Crisis Commons, Crisis Mappers, Python, Plone), and have good contacts with broader User Interaction and Agile communities. Since the very beginning we aimed to international involvement and commitment as part of a clear roadmap toward excellence.

Since 2008, thanks to the participation in different startup projects (Demagora, Architectour and Miomood) the team has been more and more involved in social media projects, social networking applications and gaming, all aimed towards social goals.

Eventually merging the two main areas of expertise (traditional content management/collaboration and web startupping) we have become an important technical partner for innovative projects in the humanitarian sector, international development and reseach, and social.
